Creative Calendar Project

This two-day art initiative took place at the IBEL Rusy and Purviz Shroff Charitable Foundation Kindergarten in Hong Kong, an organization built on the belief that “every child deserves to thrive.” Designed to nurture creativity and confidence among 32 children from low-income ethnic minority families, the project gave students a joyful opportunity to explore art as self-expression. Working with a small team of volunteers, I led the planning, coordination, and facilitation of the workshops to bring color, imagination, and collaboration into the classroom.

Over two days, our team hosted a series of interactive art stations, each themed around one month of the year. Children experimented with techniques like stamping, stenciling, and sponge painting, using vibrant palettes to express emotions and experiences. For many, it was their first time engaging in open-ended artmaking—a rare space for play and confidence-building outside the structured classroom environment.

Art Workshops

Following the workshop, I curated and digitized the children’s artwork to create a 12-month collective calendar. Each page reflected the unique personality of the class through a blend of color and texture. To bring the project to life, I reached out to local businesses and community sponsors, successfully securing over $500 USD to cover printing and design costs, ensuring every child received a personal copy.

Designing the Calendar

The completed calendar was professionally printed and distributed to all participating children and their families as a keepsake. Beyond its cheerful visuals, the calendar became a tangible celebration of creativity and inclusion—proof that small acts of art and collaboration can create lasting joy and pride within a community.
